Some Quotes #Code wants to be simple. If you are aware of Code Smells, and duplicate code is one of the strongest, and you react accordingly, your systems will get simpler. When I began working in this style, I had to give up the idea that I had the perfect vision of the system to which the system had to conform. Instead, I had to accept that I was only the vehicle for the system expressing its own desire for simplicity. My vision could shape initial direction, and my attention to the desires of the code could affect how quickly and how well the system found its desired shape, but the system is riding me much more than I am riding the system. --KentBeck from
The great thing about Wiki is that it is under your control. You get information at your speed. You don't stand in front of a firehose like you do with a mailing list that suddenly gets hot. If Wiki goes ballistic for a week, you just stop looking at it. Then things settle down and you get more involved. -- KentBeck from
The best manager I ever had was at the Stanford linear accelerator lab. I worked in the control room. This guy spent all his time making Heathkits. Everybody complained how lazy he was and why he didn't do this or that. But everything was always on time; if you needed parts, they were there. Personality clashes got resolved instantly. I've always wished I wasn't 20 years old when it happened so I could appreciate that this guy was absolutely masterful. He kept everything running absolutely smoothly. So that's my aesthetic as a coach. If I do everything perfectly, then my contribution is totally invisible to the team. The team says, "We did this." --KentBeck from Agile Software Development Ecosystems
